A player may have multiple CD keys (from purchasing the game multiple times, for use on multiple computers), and a single CD key may be used by multiple players (who are sharing a single computer).

The CD key identifies the computer on which Neverwinter Nights is installed.

It can, though, take some time for the game to determine that the master server is not available if an internet connection is available. Otherwise, the situation is similar to what has always been the case for LAN games with no internet connection available: the authentication step is simply skipped. This prevents logging in to servers that require master server authentication (a setting in the server's nwnplayer.ini file).

The master server has been offline since the summer of 2011, so key verification has not occurred since then. Furthermore, each computer connecting to the game must have its own set of CD keys. When starting or joining a multiplayer game, the game's CD keys are authenticated by BioWare's master server (if the master server is available). The key is entered during the game's installation and stored in the nwncdkey.ini file (if the key is accepted by the installer).

The code for the base game is also used to validate premium modules. This 35-character alphanumeric code is used for authentication, both during installation of the game and when using the multiplayer aspect of the game. The flow of a conversation can change depending on what you say.A CD key comes with each copy of Neverwinter Nights and each expansion pack. This code now works with conversation loops, you can see the results below. It replaces the node's children with a one element table pointing to the jump node. Here we can see AddLoops find the nodes with a jump field.

The Conversation_2.lua file conversation_2 = ) do self : AddLoops ( v ) end end Here's the conversation graph as Lua code. The conversation graph looks a little like this.

In a full system it's preferable to have the conditional checks on a node be data-driven, strongly typed affairs but here in the name of convenience we use the functions directly. This means we need to add a "socialClass" tag to the hero for the conversation class to query. This conversation changes the available replies depending on the social class of the hero. Let's implement the example conversation from initial the first Never Winter Nights article. Each conversation graph I make is in it's own file and lives in this folder. In this project I've create "code/conversation". The definitions for conversation graphs can get pretty long. The previous conversation graph project will be used as a base. The conversation we implemented was quite basic, in this article we'll extend the code to deal with more advanced features.

In the previous article we used the How to Make an RPG game code to build a simple conversation engine like Never Winter Nights.
